About Madder

Madder began as feelings. Cozy. Comfort. The tactile appeal of textiles seemed, for me, directly linked to these two valuable sensations. Madder then became a place, a home for coziness and comfort to nest and be apart of my everyday.

Madder's current ongoing project is swatch diaries, which was dreamed up a few years ago. The concept of what it entails continually evolves. Yet, the core remains. A love for knitting, yarn, color, texture, pattern, design, and photography. The pages of swatch diaries are a playground of enjoyment for the creative process and each volume explores a new source of inspiration.

About me {Carrie Bostick Hoge}: I graduated from Parsons School of Design with a BFA in Photography and worked in the field for various magazines and photographers before leaving NYC. I moved around a bit before landing in Portland, Maine, where my interest in knitting grew. Working in the mill for The Fibre Company and as a stylist for Interweave Knits, I quickly realized that knitting would dominate my focus and lead me in a new (and wonderful) direction. Now, I work out of Fort Nest, a small studio in my backyard. Here, I am able to integrate my knitting, photography, and design interests.
